How to throw a garden party

We will can meet again! The countdown is on to 29th March when we will finally be able to enjoy the company of friends in our gardens, in a group of six or 2 households. It seems like forever since we were able to socialize, let alone host a garden party!

And 6 people can be a party – in fact, this is the perfect number for entertaining. Smaller groups make entertaining more accessible and less stressful. Why not make it extra special for six and enjoy the opportunity to catch up in more intimate sized groups.

We’ve created a range of beautiful invitations that are easy to customise with your photos, text and party details. You can also add a special message to your guests.

Choose the right flowers

Whether you are hosting an afternoon drinks or a garden lunch party, the décor needs to be on point. As we are coming into spring there is a plethora of beautiful blossoms available from local florist and grocery stores.

Flower arrangements for a garden party
We took inspiration from a lovely country hotel Thyme, Table Flowers Home, very inspiring Pale Blue Gingham and Veranda Magazine

Some of our favorite floral displays are large arrangements adorning the bar table. Whether you buy blossom branches or find your own gorgeous greenery while out on a country walk, branches have high impact and are not difficult to arrange.

And to make your bar extra special, why not select a signature drink for the event. You can check Mike’s Artisan Drinks for inspiration or book a mixology hour with him, soon in person!

If you are hosting a lunch, we love to use smaller arrangement all down the table.

Here are a few helpful tips from our own Amelia Carter. Arrangements along a rectangular table should be lower than 30 cm. Otherwise it is very tricky to talk across the table. If you haven’t got small vases, do not worry. You can use water-glasses, old jars or even teacups!

If you don’t fancy buying flowers you can also use plants as the centre pieces, then you can add these to your own garden or windowsill. A small fern goes a long way – try re-potting them in something beautiful like a silver bowl.

Get ready for a chilly breeze

As we are still only permitted to entertain outside, you may be worried about guests being chilly. Take this as a perfect way to add to your table décor. By simply draping colour coordinated pashmina’s over each person’s chair, it adds to the ambiance and they may be useful to keep your guests warm later in a day.

Get personal

A final element of personalization are name cards at each persons’ spot. While simple white cards are lovely, be creative and have fun with this final touch. You can use items found on walks to hold the cards, such as chestnuts with a small cut made into them or write your guests name directly on a leaf or bit of birch bark.

Share the joy

It has been a long time since we were able to get together with our friends and celebrate life’s important events, however big or small they may be. Wouldn’t it be lovely to spread a bit of joy with an act of kindness?

You can suggest a small donation towards a good cause with your lovely invitation? Our invitations make it easy for everyone to donate when they RSVP. The donations are entirely optional and because it’s such a nice gesture and so easy to do, most people feel happy to donate.

We partner with over 40 local grassroots charities that provide vital services to people in need such as food & shelter, clothing, education, social inclusion and wellbeing. We also work with some very special international charities that help children and families in the developing world.

If your charity is not on our list, please get in touch and we will add them.

Enjoy your garden party!
