Competition winners announced!

“Life is a flower of which love is the honey”. What a lovely way to celebrate with this expressive drawing by nine-year old, Leela. Can you spot Victor Hugo’s famous quote on it?

We are proud to announce our competition winners and display the children’s artwork created during lockdown. Each winner donated their £50 prize to a good cause:

Dancing Mermaid by Stella, age 5

Donated to: The Shoebox Project

Stella’s Mermaid is the winner in the youngest category of 0 to 5 years. We loved the vivid colours, movement and feeling of joy expressed by the drawing. Stella’s chosen charity is The Shoebox Project which collects and distributes gift-filled boxes to women impacted by homelessness.

Fun Fair by Victoire, age 9

Donated to: Magic Breakfast

Our winner in the 6 to 9 years of age category is Victoire’s Fun Fair party invitation. We liked her overall composition, elegant simplicity and the rainbow colours used. Her drawing is dedicated to Magic Breakfast, a charity that provides nutritious breakfast to children at school.

Birthday Blast by Michael, age 12

Donated to: The Trussell Trust

Michael impressed the judging panel with the mix of art techniques and contrasting colours used in this digital design. This was the most competitive category with so many great submissions we would be proud to display on our invitations section. Given our digital focus, we decided to award Michael for the use of technology in creating his artwork. He is supporting The Trussell Trust foodbank as he feels that providing food to struggling people is the most acute need at the moment.

Overall competition winner: Life is a Flower

Our overall prize goes to Leela’s original and vivid art work. We like her vibrant colours, expressive drawing technique and the symbolism of her composition.

Donated to: The Felix Project

The bee in the middle of a flower is symbolic of our return back to nature and a celebration of the Earth and the Environment. It brings a message of hope and a community spirit that are so relevant to our current situation.

We also feel that the drawing is a great expression of the Kindergifts mission – bringing people together through celebrations to help others and the environment. Leela is donating her work to The Felix Project, a charity that redistributes surplus food to people in need.

Well done to our competition winners and all the children who participated. We are proud to showcase some of the other drawings as well:

Why not have a browse and choose a gorgeous invitation for your next celebration? Did you know, you can now throw a virtual party for your little one and suggest a collective gift instead of presents? Let’s keep the party going in these virtual times.

Our competition judges

Many thanks to our judges, Ellie Cartlidge and Dulcimer Draws. They had a hard time selecting the winners and it was interesting to hear what they were looking for when assessing the children’s work. Originality of ideas, symbolic, expressive styles and the use of colours were amongst their key criteria.

She loves working on children related and novelty designs which can be seen on her Instagram page.

Dulcie is an artist working with our charity partner, Mousetrap Theatre Projects. She’s also a founding director of Sketch Appeal, an initiative on a mission to inspire people with ideas how to get creative and happy!

“We will meet again!”
