10 Books on Kindness to read to young children

A young girl reading book and hugging her toy.

As we approach World’s Book Day, we wanted to share some wonderful books that teach young children about being kind, sharing and helping others. After all, aren’t those the first values we want to instill in our children? We hope that you’ll discover some new titles in here thanks to the ingenuity of our wonderful community of friends and supporters. All of the suggestions are coming from local parents through our Instagram and Facebook pages. We added some click-through links in case you’re missing some of these books on kindness and want to purchase them for those long Easter holidays ahead!

The Smartest Giant in Town

The Smartest Giant in Town written by Julia Donaldson and beautifully illustrated by Alex Scheffler is about the big, kind heart of a generous giant. A lovely read, especially for toddlers, as the rhyming verses help them to easily follow and remember the story. It’s one of our all time favourites!

Good People Everywhere

Good People Everywhere by Lynea Gillen. The book inspires children to grow into grateful, caring and giving people.

Reading to children is so important for their development, well-being and emotional intelligence. This is why we like to promote reading to young children and support the work of reading charities such as Beanstalk Coram, Real Action and Doorstep Library. We hope you will have the chance to read these lovely books on kindness with your children over Easter. And if you have a spare hour or two per week, why not volunteer as an online reader with one of our charity partners? It is a truly rewarding experience.

Happy Easter Reading!
